Quillayute River Restoration Project

Project Overview:

Quileute Natural Resources (QNR) is continuing restoration efforts to improve salmon habitat, reduce flood risk to downstream communities, and improve climate change resiliency in the Quillayute River system. We are designing and constructing projects that remove fish passage barriers, reconnect floodplains, enhance cold water refuges, and put large wood back into the river to create essential habitat for salmon.

Project Goals:

Coming Soon: Historic Oxbow Reconnection and Restoration Project

The Historic Oxbow Reconnection and Restoration Project is the Quileute Tribe’s next Quillayute restoration project, planned for construction in 2026. The project will take place on the south side of the Quillayute River just upstream of Richwine Bar. The primary goals are to reduce flood risk to downstream communities and La Push and to improve salmon populations.

Looking ahead: Upper Quillayute River Restoration

Upper Quillayute River restoration, between Richwine Bar and Three Rivers, is currently in early design stages. QNR will begin holding community meetings to discuss concepts for future restoration on the river. Implementation is expected between 2028-2030 after the Historic Oxbow Reconnection and Restoration Project is complete.
